Any tile can be used on a backsplash, smaller tiles are definitely more popular only because the space between your countertop and cabinetry is usually between 16 and 18 inches. Can I use marble on a kitchen countertop?

Yes, although marble is a softer stone than granite or quartz, it can be used on your kitchen counter. With time it will form a patina giving it an old world feel. The trend right now is definitely marble for the kitchen, but if you want a material that will not change in appearance with wear and tear, then granite may be a better choice. It is also important to seal your marble top with a good impregnator – we recommend Lithofin PSI or Stonetech by Dupont.

What is the difference between wall tile and floor tile?

The difference between wall and floor tile is the strength. Wall tile has been given that name because that is the only location we recommend it in because the color comes from a more delicate glaze on the surface. Most floor tiles today are porcelain whether glazed or unglazed, and they have different ratings from residential to high-traffic commercial.

How can I best care for my stone floors?

Sand, dirt and grit cause the most damage to natural stone surfaces. Frequently mopping interior floors with a clean dust mop and using mats and area rugs near entrances can help protect your stone surfaces from these abrasive substances. Instead of using a vacuum cleaner which may scratch the surface of the floor, clean stone surfaces with a few drops of a neutral cleaner, stone soap, or a mild dishwashing detergent and warm water. Remember to change the rinse water frequently. Do not use harsh chemicals or products that contain lemon, vinegar, or other acids on marble or other calcareous stones and never use scouring powers or creams on any stone surface.
